Have you heard of the TSI, or Transportation Security Administration? Chances are if you travel regularly for business or take a lot of trips, you are quite familiar with them. With the rules getting updated frequently regarding what you can pack in your suitcase and what you can take on the plane, it’s important to keep up with the rules to avoid unnecessary hassles at the airport.

Although this wasn’t always the case, at many major airports business travelers are now able to use a special security lane designed to move faster than the others. While it may not be available everywhere, you should check with your local airport to see if it’s offered and how you can qualify.

Electronic Devices And Business Travel Luggage

When you take advantage of the fast lane at the airport, be sure to remove your laptop computer promptly from its carrying case and put it by itself into a screening bin right away. You’ll also be allowed to carry on or check camcorders, cell phones, pagers, cameras and similar electronic items although once on board the plane there may be restrictions on their use.

Do take special precautions with you camera film as the security screening equipment can cause damage to your undeveloped photos. It’s always best to request the security screener to inspect your camera equipment bags by hand and bypass the X-ray scanner to avoid damage to your film.

Restrictions On Sporting Goods

If you’re worried about keeping a healthy diet and workout routine while you’re away, remember that some activity is often part of a business trip. A lot of business is routinely conducted on the golf course or even a tennis court. If you can work these sports in, you’ll have no problem staying in shape while you’re away.

Most sporting goods fall outside the carry-on size restrictions and cannot be brought on the plane with you. Items like golf clubs and ski poles are simply too large and must be checked. Other items that are potentially dangerous such as a baseball bat also must be checked. But you’ll be able to pack smaller, less dangerous items such as golf balls, for example into your carry on luggage if you wish.

Packing Personal Items

When you’re traveling you need to take all the personal items you would normally use at home with you. Unlike those on vacation, you’re away working and need to look polished and professional at all times.

Personal toiletry items such as creams, lotions, eye drops, cologne and mouthwash can be either checked or carried on provided they are in containers three ounces or less. Because the rules do tend to change, check with your airport if in doubt about a particular item.
