Internet Marketing is the most common topic that comes up with my small business clients. Their biggest concern is learning how to make money with the website they have. This isnt unusual. Big businesses wonder the same thing.
The tactics used to monetize a small business website versus a big business website comes down to money. Big business has much more of it than small business. As in most things, the solutions lie in a trade-off between time and money. Since small businesses cant compete on money, they need to put in much more time in marketing their site through a variety of other methods. Unfortunately, time is a precious commodity to entrepreneurs struggling to be successful.
Email marketing may be a good way for small business owners to develop a strategy that uses time effectively to offset their larger competitors advertising money. Small business owners have a rapport with their clients that most large businesses don’t have and they should capitalize on that. Because email is more familiar, it should be the place to start. Learning one tactic at a time helps eliminate being overwhelmed by all the possibilities that exist for online marketing efforts.
Over time, more avenues for promotion will be necessary. Internet Marketing is about much more than email. Some of the other activities would include:
* Complimentary services may provide the opportunity to place banner ads
* Keywords are the backbone of Internet Marketing. Hire a professional to develop these phrases for you.
* Industry specific online forums can be a great place to generate product interest and learn the latest trends.
* Building relationships with email is still a good lead generating marketing tool.
* To provide even more service to prospects and clients, entrepreneurs should consider starting their own forums. There are many different free tools available to help them get started.
* Posting opinions, reviews, or demonstrating expertise can help develop expert status
The list is not designed to overwhelm those new to internet marketing. It’s purpose is show that there is more than one way to promote a business. The best way is still to take one tactic before trying something new.
